De siffrorna är vad folk anser sig vara. Man kan enkelt förstå att det är helt orimligt med över 20% vita i Colombia. Området invaderades av spanjorerna på 1500 talet. Det kom slavar där snart därpå. Självklart blandades befolkningen så pass under 500 år att det inte kan vara 40% vita. Däremot kan det vara 40% eller fler som är ljusa i hyn men med drag av andra etniciteter. Colombia har generellt en ganska ljushyad mestizobefolkning som skiljer sig både länder som Peru och bolivia, och även från de svarta och mulatterna vid kusten.
