Inreseförbudet gäller som utgångspunkt för utländska medborgare som försöker resa in i Sverige från andra länder än EU-länder, länder som annars ingår i EES och Schweiz. I EES ingår alla EU-länder samt Island, Liechtenstein och Norge. Även Storbritannien räknas som ett EES-land enligt utträdesavtalet mellan Storbritannien och EU.

Det betyder att det fortfarande är tillåtet att resa in till Sverige från följande länder: Belgien, Bulgarien, Cypern, Danmark, Estland, Finland, Frankrike, Förenade Kungariket (Storbritannien), Grekland, Irland, Island, Italien, Kroatien, Lettland, Liechtenstein, Litauen, Luxemburg, Malta, Nederländerna, Norge, Polen, Portugal, Rumänien, Schweiz, Slovakien, Slovenien, Spanien, Tjeckien, Tyskland, Ungern och Österrike.

Authorities in Sweden have decided to prolong the temporary ban to the European Union via Sweden until August 31, due to the Coronavirus pandemic situation, the country’s Ministry of Justice has announced through a press release.

According to Sweden’s government, the country will also ease some of its restrictions for the travellers, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Previously EU citizens and their family members, as well as people with Swedish residence permits, were allowed to enter Sweden if the purpose was to return home. In contrast, today’s decision means that the requirement that the purpose of entry must be to return home is removed.

"Entry is thus allowed for EU citizens, and people with Swedish residence permit regardless of the purpose of travel. The requirement that those entering Sweden must be returning home is also removed for their family members. The group of people allowed to enter has also been expanded since people living in certain specified countries outside of the EU are now exempted from the entry ban,” Ministry of Justice’s statement reads.

Apart from citizens from EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland, also citizens residing in 14 selected countries are allowed to enter Sweden. The list of countries is evaluated on a regular basis and will be updated every other week. Current countries of exemption: Algeria, Australia, Georgia, Japan, Canada, Morocco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.
